This is a mystery that is far out of our reach to understand. Because it’s just a mystery and that mystery relates to us, you and I and as human beings God expect us to live and be in good terms by that I mean having peace with our neighbor.
What seems to be most of time difficult even impossible to tie both ends together. Did God ever say in His holy word or ever ask whoever we are to to meet both ends and what appears to be impossible and God will never demand anything from us that He knows would be impossible for us to do.
Then what is it about the East-West mystery?
To answer this, let’s go for a walk into Jesus’ teachings concerning such a fact. And this mystery can be solved only if we are to humble ourselves and do whatever we are asked to do. Before any further steps, let’s clear that up once and for all. For many have misinterpreted and misunderstood Jesus’ words whether being confused or by ignorance.
The Lord Jesus came just as he died was to restore man back to his rightlful position and man’s relationship with God, the Father. (Before sin entered the world and corrupted the human race on Earth and to a certain extent we’ve become sinners). That was God’s main purpose because sin never started with man, however, man has inherited a sinful nature.
The mystery is hiding behind the cross and the cross is the perfect symbol of God’s forgiveness and love for humanity. The cross a vertical and horizontal sign which has a tremendous meaning. Thus saying so, we are here to talk about the horizontal mystery part of the cross.
People often don’t realize how it is crucial for us to wholeheartedly value the work done by Christ Jesus at Calvary. The cross is also a sign of our victory over sin and death. And Jesus by His blood, reconciled and brought everything together through His death and resurrection (man to God and man to himself). This was part of God’s plan bringing all people together as one looking up to the true and ultimate sacrifice of His only Son, Christ Jesus hung on a cross.
What is the East-West mystery?
The East-West mystery is the mystery Jesus calls “to never stop” for instance, never stop believing, never stop loving, never stop trying even after many attempts resulting in failure, never stop going, and never stop forgiving others. That now we understand, from one end to another, there’s absolutely no end to it, and no end to how much we can accomplish in this life.
To figure out this mystery, we’ll read a well known verse in the Bible, in the Book of Matthew, chapter 8 “Then Peter approached him and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? As many as seven times?” “I tell you, not as many as seven,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven.” Matthew 18:21-22 CSB
As earlier said, there’s no end to it, no end when it comes to how far as to how much as anyone willing to travel from East to West, it takes an inconsiderable amount of time. Jesus’ reply was, ” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven.”
Jesus simply wanted to teach His disciples to never stop forgiving because it’s boundless of time.
How does the East-West mystery reason in us?
“But seventy times seven.” which amounts to four hundred and ninety” which means that we are more like to offend God than anyone would offend us. This number is insane compared to the many times we ought to forgive others. However, no one will ever offend us 490 times in just one day or would even come close to such a number.
It’s not a number of time we’re offended in a day, it’s rather a relentless number of time “We Must Forgive.” The least offense, the more we are to forgive.
